Hawaii comprises one of the
most isolated and biodiverse
set of landmasses in the world.

-

Its sheer isolation & unique micro-biomes
has incubated a rare expression of wildlife
unmatched by most regions around the
world. Biologists have long marveled, studied,
and documented the rich variety of native &
endemic plants, insects, birds, and sea creatures
here. However, the mystery of one kingdom has
gone relatively overlooked: fungi.

Until Now.

This is by no means a reflection of the lack of variety or rareness of the fungi here. In fact, the situation is quite the opposite as some of the worlds most rare mushrooms humbly occupy these islands. Despite these great unknowns, no current organization, private or academically affiliated, is actively working on understanding what fungi grows here…Until now.

Native intelligence.

-

The Hawaii Fungi Project is an organized
effort actively working towards identifying, DNA sequencing, mapping, & monitoring
of the mushrooms that grow in Hawaii Nei.
The project is a non-profit, grant & donor
funded project making huge contributions
towards preserving the native intelligence of the fungi that inhabit the islands.
